Smooth fine lines and wrinkles, fade dark spots, and refresh your complexion with this prescription anti-aging cream. Developed with dermatologists, it’s customized for your skin’s needs so you can put your best, brightest face forward.

Meet the Anti-Aging Cream

  • Formulated with tretinoin— a retinoid that increases cell turnover to smooth fine lines and wrinkles

  • Supported with key ingredients like niacinamide and azelaic acid

  • Tailored to your unique needs and goals for your skin

How it works

  • Apply once daily (at night!) after cleansing and before or after moisturizing, depending on your skin’s sensitivity

  • Due to the powerfully effective ingredients, you might start with a staggered application schedule—every third or every other night to start before working up to daily applications

  • Start seeing improvement in just weeks, with full results after about 3 months

Directions

Press out a precisely dosed amount of cream and spread it over your face at night as directed by your provider. Because this is a prescription-strength cream, the skin has to grow accustomed to it. Typically, it's suggested to use the prescribed dose of cream every 2nd or 3rd night to build tolerance and increase as your provider recommends. Wash your face before applying this cream, and moisturize after applying it.

Anti-Aging Cream FAQs

Do anti-aging creams work?

The efficacy of anti-aging creams and wrinkle creams entirely depends on which active ingredients are used in the product and how that interacts with your skin. Many facial creams are marketed as anti-aging products, but what really matters are the anti-aging qualities of the ingredients. Retinoids, hydroxy acids and hyaluronic acid have been clinically proven to counteract certain effects of aging like wrinkles, lack of skin elasticity and sun damage. Vitamins like Vitamin C, Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) have also been studied for their anti-aging properties. Many effective prescription and over-the-counter wrinkle creams have a combination of active ingredients to target the many causes and signs of skin aging.

When should you start using anti-aging cream?

To maximize the effectiveness of an anti-aging skincare routine, consider starting using anti-aging cream during your 20s or 30s, before deep wrinkles appear. Long before visual evidence of aging is apparent, such as wrinkles, the skin is accumulating sun damage and losing collagen and elastin. Incorporating a cream with active ingredients like tretinoin or niacinamide into your skin routine before wrinkles appear can help to proactively fight the causes of skin aging. During your 20s and 30s, establish a skincare routine that includes sunscreen, moisturizing lotion and antioxidants to fight free radicals. These habits can help to slow the appearance of aging signs.

Can you reverse aging?

While you cannot reverse aging, some skin products or therapies can counteract the effects of aging, like wrinkles or sagging skin. Using a good moisturizer can help to hydrate and “plump” skin. Products with retinoids like tretinoin can help to boost skin cell turnover and collagen production, which can help skin appear more firm or elastic. Some women consider other anti-aging measures, such as face lift surgery or non-invasive skin tightening, which may be both more effective and more expensive than skincare products.

What are anti-aging ingredients for skin care?

Some common anti-aging ingredients are glycolic acid, salicylic acid, retinol, retinyl palmitate, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. In a study by the American Academy of Dermatology, retinol and glycolic acid were found to have significant anti-aging effects. Both retinol and glycolic acid work by helping skin turnover new skin cells. Glycolic acid and other alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) help to exfoliate the outermost layer of dead skin cells to reveal fresh skin cells, while retinol and retinoids increase cell turnover. However, both AHAs and retinoids can be irritating to skin, representing a significant disadvantage for people with sensitive skin. Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, and hyaluronic acid are generally well-tolerated by skin and have an anti-aging effect.

What is the best face cream for wrinkles?

There is not one best anti-aging face cream but there are ingredients that have been shown to fight specific signs of skin aging. Drugstore anti-aging face creams often contain retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids or hyaluronic acid. Prescription creams can contain stronger ingredients, like tretinoin, to fight anti-aging. OTC face creams generally do not contain prescription-strength retinoids. To find the best prescription face cream for your wrinkles and skin type, consult your dermatologist or MEET ONLINE with a qualified medical provider.

Should I use retinol or hyaluronic acid for wrinkles?

Retinol and hyaluronic acid work to counteract aging in very different ways, and both hyaluronic acid and retinol have benefits for anti-aging. Retinol and retinoids are powerful ingredients that increase cell turnover, which can reduce wrinkles and improve dull skin tone. On the other hand, hyaluronic acid is a substance that your body naturally produces to retain moisture. Over time, the amount of hyaluronic acid that you naturally produce decreases, so countering that loss with a hyaluronic acid cream can have a moisturizing, firming and brightening effect on your skin. In fact, both retinoids and hyaluronic acid can be used to fight aging at the same time. A gentle, fragrance-free face wash, anti-aging cream with tretinoin and a face moisturizer with hyaluronic acid can be a simple, but effective, skin care routine.

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles are caused by many factors over time, including photoaging, reduction of collagen production, smoking, and repeated facial expressions. A study found that photoaging, or sun exposure, is responsible for approximately 80 percent of visual signs we associate with aging, such as wrinkles and dark spots. Another study showed that as we age, collagen production slows down, which negatively affects skin elasticity and causes some sagging and wrinkles that we associate with aging. Because aging is cumulative, many people make anti-aging skin care a part of their daily routine before wrinkles or discoloration like age spots start to develop. Wearing sunscreen every day and incorporating anti-aging ingredients to your skincare routine can help to proactively mitigate the major causes of face wrinkles.

How do you get rid of wrinkles?

You can reduce the appearance of wrinkles by incorporating ingredients like tretinoin, AHAs or hyaluronic acid into your skincare routine. A study on tretinoin showed that using tretinoin for three months improved wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks and hands. A well-known benefit of AHAs, such as glycolic acid or lactic acid, is their ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid also works to reduce the visibility of wrinkles by hydrating the skin. If you are experiencing crow’s feet, dark circles or puffiness around your eyes, a dedicated eye cream can help to reduce the appearance of those symptoms of aging. The night cream will work while you sleep, so it does not need to contain sunscreen or other common ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams. Other therapies that can temporarily make wrinkles look better are treatments like Botox(R) Cosmetic and dermal fillers. These treatments offer greater certainty of less noticeable wrinkles for a length of time, but they require a procedure at the dermatologist’s office and are often quite expensive.

Can I get rid of wrinkles permanently?

While you may be able to remove a problematic wrinkle or wrinkles with plastic surgery, like face and brow lifts, there are no treatments that guarantee that you will never have wrinkles again. Even with plastic surgery, Botox(R) Cosmetic or anti-aging creams that temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles, your skin can form new wrinkles over time in the same or new places. During or following treatment, you may see a significant improvement or disappearance of your wrinkles, but if you stop your treatment, wrinkles will likely return. For this reason, be wary of companies or influencers who claim that they have permanent solutions to wrinkles.

How do you prevent wrinkles?

You can slow or delay the appearance of wrinkles by developing a good skincare routine that includes a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), moisturizers and ingredients with anti-aging properties, like retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids. Committing to a skincare routine as a young adult can help to keep your skin healthy and stave off photoaging. Regular use of sunscreen carries the added benefit of some protection against developing skin cancer. However, products that irritate your skin or cause dry skin can actually make signs of aging more noticeable, so avoid using too many exfoliating or harsh ingredients at one time.

Can you get rid of forehead wrinkles without Botox?

There are other treatments besides Botox(R) Cosmetic that may reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles. These treatments are the same as what you would use for wrinkles in the eye area (crow’s feet) or cheeks. While anti-aging treatments aren’t meant to “get rid” of wrinkles, tretinoin, hyaluronic acid and AHA ingredients can be used on your forehead to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If you have tried prescription anti-aging creams for 4-6 months with no change in the appearance of your forehead wrinkles, you may want to discuss other options with your healthcare provider.
