Clear Water Cleanser FAQs

What should I look for in facial cleanser?

The best face washes and cleansers to look for are non-comedogenic and fragrance-free because they are least likely to irritate your skin, regardless of your skin type. Our cleanser is non-comedogenic, hydrating, and gentle, which makes it great for all skin types, including acne-prone skin. When you're shopping for face cleansers and other skin care products at the drugstore or online, you can look for additional dermatologist-recommended ingredients based on your skin type. To treat dry skin or sensitive skin, look for glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or ceramides for their hydrating properties. For acne-prone skin, combination skin, or oily skin, try a product with retinol, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide for an exfoliating effect that fights acne.

Is an oil cleanser good for acne?

Using cleansing oil on oily skin sounds a little backwards, doesn't it? Actually, it's not a bad idea! Incorporating oil cleansers into your skincare routine can prove to be a great hydration method for acne-prone skin. These types of cleansers can power through dirt, bad or excess oils, and bacteria that cause breakouts without stripping your skin of the nutrients and moisture it needs.

How often should you wash your face?

The typical rule of thumb for washing your face is to incorporate washing your face into your morning and nightly skincare routine. At the bare minimum, you should wash your face once a day, preferably in the evening. Nighttime cleansing works as a makeup remover and a cleanser for all of the dirt, oil, bacteria, and dead skin that has built up during your day. No matter what, you should apply an oil-free moisturizer immediately after washing your face to replenish your skin's hydration.

Is double cleansing good for acne?

Washing your face twice in one morning or evening with the same face wash or cleanser may be a bad idea, depending on your skin type. However, using two gentle skin cleansers to remove makeup first and then tackle other impurities like oil, dirt and bacteria, may work for some people. For dry or sensitive skin, keep an eye on your skin’s dryness if you try double cleansing. You want to leave your skin feeling clean and healthy, not raw and tight.

Can over-cleansing cause acne?

In short: yes. Unfortunately, washing your face more than twice a day can cause dry skin, forcing your oil glands to overproduce. This oil can trap dirt and bacteria on your skin, which can eventually build up and lead to blemishes.

Should you wash your face in the shower?

You can wash your face in the shower, but check your water temperature—hot water can be drying and counteract the hard work your face wash is doing for your skin. Try finishing off your shower with a burst of cold water to wash your face. Cold water can help tighten pores, reduce redness, and reduce inflammation.

What is the difference between face wash and face cleanser?

Basically, the difference comes down to the formula. Face washes are typically water based and thin, coming in gel or foam format. Cleansers are typically thicker and are sold as creams. Foaming face washes tend to be a bit more intense and can exfoliate easily, so they are better for targeting oily skin. Cleansers are gentler and often are recommended for more sensitive skin.
